FROM THE COMPOSER
" Three Spirituals "
In their a cappella triptych Three Spirituals, Robert S. Cohen (composer) and Maria V.S. Seigenthaler (lyricist) explore the human ability to fathom God's existence as evidence of His unconditional love. The first spiritual "I See" is melodically open and pure, and lyrically presents the fear and wonder of this life from the perspective of a newborn baby. The second "Do You Believe" challenges those who hold entrenched and intractable positions. It is a witty piece with a lighthearted, island-influenced, musical style. The final spiritual "I Know" is a hauntingly lovely melodic and harmonic celebration of the fact that our ability to question the Creator leads us to the ability to be creative ourselves.
