2009 Composition Contest

For Choral/Vocal Music

The Society for Universal Sacred Music is now accepting entries from composers of all nationalities for its new composers' competition, the winners of which will have their pieces performed in our Fourth Festival of Universal Sacred Music in New York City, in May 2010.

Acceptable Entries: Choral pieces of 5 to 20 minutes in length, either a cappella or with up to 10 instruments; or works for solo voice and instrumental ensemble of no more than 10 instruments.

Deadline: Entries must be received by June 30th, 2009.

Requirements: Texts - which may be in any language - must be chosen to reflect our mission, which goes beyond the boundaries of existing traditions to express the universal and unconditional love of God for us all, our fundamental unity as eternal children of God, and the peace that we can create worldwide by laying down our arms and forgiving each other, henceforth living as the brothers and sisters we have always been.

Submitted pieces may be published or unpublished, performed or not yet performed. Please refer to the Core Principles in our website for a greater understanding of what your texts may include. Scores must be neat and legible, and recordings as CDs or Mp3s are encouraged, although not required, in addition to scores. Please include your full address, telephone and email.

We will award up to 8 winners. All prizes are equal and include a performance in New York City by The New York Virtuoso Singers, Harold Rosenbaum, conductor; $500; further promotion, and inclusion into our library. One entry per composer.

This competition has no fee.
