Our Fundamental Unity:
The Meaning of Universal Sacred Music

Imagine a world in which we can travel from one country to another and encounter acceptance on the most fundamental level. Imagine a world in which no other person claims to have a superior way of being. Imagine a world in which belonging to a religious group means belonging to a community that accepts all other human beings as equal and eternal children of God. And imagine a world in which conversions are a practice of the distant past – conversions from one religion to another having become one of the ultimate absurdities; for how can one convert from being a child of God to a child of God? In that world let us imagine one universal faith – in which the spiritual knowledge of God’s universal and unconditional love – that we all carry deep within our hearts – is our guiding light.

Fifth Festival a Roaring Success!

On November 12, 2011, we presented the 5th Festival of Universal Sacred Music at Symphony Space, located at 95th Street on Broadway, NYC. The Festival ran from 2PM until 10:40PM. Featured performers were: Anonymous 4, Deepak Kumar Pareek, The New York Virtuoso Singers, with James Adams on organ, The Riverside Church Inspirational Choir, Maya Raviv, The Canticum Novum Youth Choir, The Western Wind, Catherine Russell, Roger Davidson, David Newman, Thomas McCargar with Brent Funderburk on piano, and the music of Sharon Farber with Omar Faruk Tekbilek, David Kontesz and Freddy Schiftan as principal instrumentalists. The event was a tremendous success and gathered three times more audience than any of our past Festivals!

The event was similar to the Wall to Wall concerts that Symphony Space is famous for. A special treat during the performance in the inner lobby was a photography show about the nature of light by Aicha Skandrani, a highly inspired Tunisian born artist who currently lives in France. This event was co-sponsored by the United Nations Association, USA Southern New York State Division.

May 2011 Concert

The concert on Sunday, May 22, co-produced by the Society for Universal Sacred Music and Canticorum Virtuosi, was a tremendous success! We had a large and enthusiastic audience which was constantly amazed at the sublime performances conducted by our Maestro, Harold Rosenbaum. The New York Virtuoso singers outdid themselves, as did Edie Rosenbaum’s wonderful children’s choir. The spirit of the entire concert uplifted us all!

Our first Gala Celebration was a great success

On Sunday, April 3rd, we had our first – and very successful – annual gala to raise funds for the Society. Almost 100 people attended, and were regaled by a superb dinner as well as music by the New York Virtuoso Singers and our illustrious music director, Harold Rosenbaum, plus a dynamic jazz duo with our president, Roger Davidson on piano and our newly elected Board member, Pablo Aslan on bass. Our silent auction and raffle drew stiff competition and generated much support, with winners taking home donated items from the finest French champagne to a romantic weekend for two by the sea. Special congratulations go to Edie Rosenbaum, our Program Director for such a magnificent job in putting this event together.
